Common FAQ

Q. I have just received my registration code but do not know how to enter it?
A. You would have received a download link on the registration email, this is for the full version of software which you need to download because the trial editions cannot be registered. It will ask for the serial number during installation.

Q. I have have a new computer how do I transfer my license?
A. Just uninstall the software from your old PC and install on your new one using the details sent in your registration email.

Q. I have lost my serial code and installer, what can I do ?
A. No problem, just send us an email with any order details that you can remember like name,company name, date ordered and email address used and we will send you a new download link and retrieve your code for you. If you need to use the software urgently then you can install the 30 day trial from our website.

Q. I am having problems installing your software on Vista or Window 7 ?
A.  After double clicking on the installer Vista should prompt you for Admin rights so make sure you click on OK, if you still have problems then Right-Click on the installer and select the 'Run as Administrator' option.

 

Operation/Technical FAQ

Q. When I scan using the document feeder I only get 1 page scanned or all pages are the same image ?
A. This often happens when using WIA drivers which are not fully Twain compliant. Click on the 'Select Scanner' button and see if you have Twain drivers for your device. You could also try Native WIA mode in the settings of our software.

Q. What is the best resolution to use for scanning PDF's ?
A. 200dpi (dots per inch) is fine for most documents but if you have very small print then 300dpi might be better. Any higher will slow scanning down and produce huge PDF files

Q. How do I get the smallest file size for my scanned PDF's ?
A. Scan in Black & White then Scan to PDF will use G4 compression which will make the PDF's  5-10x smaller than grayscale or color. 1 page @ 200 dpi will typically be less than 30kb

Q. When selecting a scanner the selection box is empty and I cannot scan ?
A. Either your scanner is not Twain or WIA compatible(unlikely) or the drivers are not loaded, you can get these from the manufacturers web site if you have lost the CD that came with it. If you need drivers click here
If your scanner has just stopped working then often rebooting it will solve the problem but turn it off at the plug for a good 10 seconds not the standby switch on the front. and check in control panel->scanner & cameras for diagnostics.

Q. Single pages scan ok but I have problems scanning multiple pages or using my scanners document feeder ?
A. Some scanners do not like to have their dialog hidden and may behave unexpectedly, just use the option to show the dialog when scanning. If your scanner has WIA and Twain drivers I would suggest that you use Twain. You could also try Native WIA mode in the settings of our software.

Q. When scanning I have to enter the settings every scan, is there a way to remember settings?
A. This is related to your scanners software because when you press the scan button the dialog that appears is not part of our software but is part of your scanner drivers. If you are using WIA drivers and your scanner has both then use Twain as these usually remember settings between scans.

A better option would be to scan not showing the dialog (option next to the scan button) then you can use the settings within our software which will remember them.

Q. Does your software work with Windows 10 ?
A. Yes both Scan to PDF and ScanWiz are fully tested on Windows 10 however your scanner and drivers must also be compatible with Win 10, to make sure download and use our 30 day trial

Q. Does your software produce searchable PDF's ?
A. No the scanned documents contain images only.

Q. Can I scan to Word format ?
A. No our software only scans to PDF and ScanWiz can scan to various image formats as well but not editable text.

Q. Can I email a PDF directly from your software ?
A. You can email without first saving the document by using the PDF preview function Click here for more details
